Paris — FAO Director-General speaks at International Forum on Agriculture and Climate Change

While the numbers of the chronically hungry have been reduced by 100 million over the past decade, 805 million still go without enough to eat on a regular basis, he noted in remarks to ministers, scientists, farmers, and representatives of civil society gathered in the French capital for a government-organized International Forum on Agriculture and Climate Change.

Agriculture has the potential to generate significant revenue for Nigeria, and offers more sustainable and equitable development than oil provides. Radio Okapi September  2014

The president, Joseph Kabila, has officially launched Tuesday, July 15 at Bukanga Lonzo (Bandundu), the proposed construction project of agro-industrial parks. This project should be established in all provinces of the DRC. According to the Agriculture Minister, Jean-Chrysostome Vahmwiti, the government hopes to offer the Congolese people a variety of food products at affordable prices.

Park Bukanga Lonzo is a pilot project. The government intends to expand these projects over the whole of the DRC, said the minister.

To believe the same source, the agro-industrial parks will also create an effective system of food production that will allow the majority of Congolese have access to a balanced diet.

For the minister, the project will also enable the DRC to meet the needs of domestic consumption and become a major exporter of food products in the medium term.
